Creating opportunity through practical AI capability.
AI Lab UK helps people, businesses and communities build practical AI capability through hands-on workshops, events and partnerships.
What is AI Lab?
Training, not awareness.
AI Lab helps people move beyond AI awareness by working on practical challenges, exploring real-world use cases and building confidence through doing.
Practical experiences that help people develop skills they can apply at work, in study and in everyday life.
Our belief
Where curiosity meets capability.
AI should create opportunity, not divide it. Too many people are being asked to prepare for an AI-enabled future without access to the experience, confidence and practical skills needed to succeed.
AI Lab exists to change that. We help people build practical AI capability through real-world challenges, hands-on learning and partnerships that connect education, industry and community.
Who it's for
Built for real people, in real places.
Students & universities
Learners and university partners building real AI skills alongside industry. Your institution commissions the programme — you attend free.
SMEs & business leaders
Small and mid-sized businesses looking for practical ways to use AI to save time, grow revenue or serve customers better. Buy a place, or bring your whole team.
Communities & sponsors
Councils, community groups and corporate sponsors who want practical AI skills in their place. These sessions run when a sponsor funds the room.
Beginners welcome in every session - no prior experience needed.
What happens at an AI Lab
Show up curious. Leave with something you built.
Hands-on workshops
Short, practical sessions where you use real tools — not slides about them.
Ask anything, no jargon
A friendly space to ask the questions you'd feel awkward asking at work.
Build working AI agents
Leave with something you've built — a working agent, workflow or prompt you can actually use.
Learn in friendly spaces
Warm, human rooms. Coffee, laptops, people at all levels of experience.
Why Leeds
Built in Leeds. Backed by the region.
AI Lab started in Leeds with a simple belief: practical AI capability should be accessible to everyone.
What began as a local initiative is now helping learners, businesses and communities build confidence and capability through AI.
AI Lab was co-founded by the team behind Zygens, a Leeds-based AI consultancy. Over the years, Zygens has worked with businesses, universities and public-sector organisations to help them understand and apply AI in practice.
Many of the ideas and approaches used across AI Lab have grown from those experiences and have been adapted for a broader community audience.
